Bengaluru: Suhas Shetty murder case accused allegedly try to strangle jail warder over ganja smuggling

Bengaluru, September 5, 2026: Five undertrial prisoners accused in the murder of Mangaluru-based Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty allegedly assaulted a jail warder and attempted to strangle him at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison after he reportedly prevented prohibited substances, including ganja, from being brought into the prison.

The incident took place on September 2 and involved jail warder Manjunath Haveli, who was on duty at Annex-1 of the prison that morning.

According to the complaint, the five accused allegedly forcibly dragged Manjunath into the fourth room and assaulted him. They allegedly punched him repeatedly in the face and nose and attempted to strangle him inside the prison.

Other prison staff rushed to the spot and rescued Manjunath from the attack.

The accused had allegedly attempted to bring prohibited items into the prison on August 22. Warder Manjunath Haveli had reportedly intercepted the items, following which the accused allegedly warned him.

The incident comes amid tighter security measures at the prison following repeated violations of prison rules.

The accused named in the complaint are Mohammed Mushameer, Abdul Shappan, Mohammed Rizwan, Niyaz and Kalandar, who are facing charges in connection with the murder of Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru.

Manjunath Haveli has filed a complaint regarding the alleged assault and attempt on his life at Parappana Agrahara Police Station. Further investigation is underway.
