Bengaluru–Mangaluru Vande Bharat trial run to begin from August 11

Mangaluru, Aug 6, 2026: In a major boost for rail passengers in the coastal region, the Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway is all set to commence the trial run of the Bengaluru–Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express from August 11.

Earlier, Union Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna had announced that the Vande Bharat service on this route would be launched soon. However, the steep gradient between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya Road in the Western Ghats posed operational challenges, as conventional trains require banker locomotives on this stretch.

Vande Bharat Trial Run

To address this, a 20-coach Vande Bharat rake equipped with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) technology for enhanced speed control and safety has arrived from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, and is currently stationed at Pandavapura in Mandya district.

According to Mysuru Divisional Railway Manager Mudit Mittal, a team of senior officials from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) will oversee the trial runs on the Sakleshpur Ghat section from August 11 to 20.

If the trials are completed successfully, the Railway Board is expected to grant approval for the commencement of regular commercial operations of the high-speed train on the Bengaluru–Mangaluru route.
