Belthangady, Nov 03, 2023: A married woman was found dead in a well near her house at Macharu in Belalu village on Friday.  Following suspicion that this might be a case of murder, police have taken the husband of the woman into custody.

The deceased woman is Shashikala (27). Shashikala and her husband Sudhaker Naik worked in a plantation. The couple has a daughter who had been to her grandmother’s house. On Thursday night only the couple were in the house. On Friday, Sudhaker had left for rubber tapping as usual and on his return in the afternoon, he reportedly noticed his wife’s body in the well and informed the police.

A post-mortem report is expected to reveal the exact cause of the death.
