Mangaluru, Feb 1, 2026: Mangaluru South MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath on Saturday described the Union Budget 2026, presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, as a visionary document that has infused fresh hope for the future development of the country.
In a statement, Kamath said the Budget has introduced a structured framework of “three duties” aimed at boosting economic growth, fulfilling the aspirations of citizens and ensuring equitable access to resources. He noted that the framework seeks to benefit farmers, youth, women, backward classes and all regions through sustainable development, while strengthening inclusiveness and resilience.

He said the announcement to provide Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to guide and support farmers and agriculturists would bring about a major transformation in agricultural activities across the country. The Budget’s special emphasis on coconut and cashew cultivation in coastal regions, along with encouragement for sandalwood cultivation, would prove to be a boon for farmers in the State’s coastal belt. Kamath also welcomed the proposal to construct 500 reservoirs to meet drinking water, agricultural and other irrigation needs.
The MLA further said that the special scheme announced for value addition in the fisheries sector would benefit fishermen in the region. He welcomed the special plan for the development of trucking routes in Karnataka’s coastal areas, stating that it would significantly boost coastal tourism. He added that the announcement of a coastal freight scheme to increase the share of coastal shipping would provide a major boost to the coastal economy.
