Belthangady, Sep 20, 2025: The Belthangady court has sentenced Umesh Gowda to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹20,000 in connection with a chain-snatching case at Koyyur.
On December 9, 2024, at Pambelu in Koyyur village, the accused had forcibly snatched a gold karimani chain from a woman walking along the roadside, broke it, and fled with it. A case was immediately registered at Belthangady police station.
The accused was arrested the same day. Belthangady Police Inspector Subbapur Math, who investigated the case, submitted the charge sheet to the court.
Charges under Sections 126(2), 309(5), and 309(6) were proven in court, leading to the conviction and sentencing.
