Basti Vaman Shenoy bags Goa Konkani Academy Lifetime Achievement Award

Mangalore, Nov 29, 211: The Goa Konkani Academy Lifetime Achievement Award 2011 will be conferred on Rocky Miranda of Mysore and Basti Vaman Shenoy of Mangalore. Academy President N. Shivadas announced the awards recently.

The Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature will be conferred on Pundalik Narayan Naik, the poet and playwright. However, Pundalik Narayan Naik has refused to accept this award as a mark of protest against the Goa state government’s move to provide equal grants to English medium schools and Konkani medium schools. 

A similar award for literary awareness will be conferred on Rocky Miranda. The Shenoy Goembab Bhasha Seva Puroskar Award will be conferred on Soter Baretto. 

The Madhav Manjunath Shanbag Konkani Bhasha Seva Purasaka will be conferred on Basti Vaman Shenoy, the president of the Vishwa Konkani Kendra of Mangalore and the Konkani Seva Saunshtha Puraskar will be conferred on Konkani Seva Kendra of Sanquelim. 

Each award comprises a cheque for Rs. 25,000, a citation, and a shawl. 

Literary Awards

The academy has also announced the winners of its literary awards. The winners of the literary awards are Nayana Adarkar for her short story Spandan, Ullas Nayak for his one-act play Ge Maye, Naman Dhavaskar for his essay Muktman, Dr. Archana Gaonkar for her research work titled 110 Vakahdi Vanaspat, and Sudha Kharangate for her children’s literary work Kanni eka Sunneachi.
Each literary award comprises a cheque for Rs. 10,000, a citation, and a memento. 

The Yuva Chaitanya Puraskar comprises Rs. 15,000 each will be conferred on Gourish Vernekar and Ananth Agni.
