Bantwal, Jan 3, 2026: A case has been registered at Uppinangady police station in connection with the alleged misappropriation of cash and gold at the Bank of Baroda branch in Perne village, Bantwal taluk.

The accused, Subrahmanyam (30) of Pulugujju, served as the joint manager of the Perne branch and was responsible for ATM supervision. Between February 6, 2024, and December 16, 2025, he allegedly deposited less cash than required into the ATM, misappropriating Rs 70.86 lakh.


ATM fraud

During a safe locker inspection on December 19, 2025, officials discovered the theft of 4.4 grams of gold valued at Rs 55,000, bringing the total alleged fraud to Rs 71.41 lakh. Subrahmanyam reportedly left the branch on December 17, 2025, without informing anyone.

The complaint was lodged on December 23, 2025, by C.V.S. Chandrashekar (50), regional manager of Bank of Baroda, Jeppu, Mangaluru. A case has been registered under Crime No. 121/2025 at Uppinangady police station under Sections 314, 316(5), and 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)–2023, and investigation is ongoing.
