Balipa Narayan Bhagavatha receives Kala Nidhi Award

Mangalore, Dec 6, 2011:  The Delhi-based Academy of Tenku Tittu Yakshagana (ATTY) conferred the Yakshagana Kala Nidhi Award on Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha, who is widely acclaimed for his Tenku Tittu style, at Town Hall on Dec 6 Tuesday. 


The award comprised a certificate, special headgear, a memento, and Rs. 15,000.

In his address, he lamented that the standard of the traditional forms of Yakshagana have reduced and opined that the promotion of the art in schools and colleges will help in its revival. 


He also expressed his gratitude to ATTY for recognizing his contribution to the art. 


M. L. Samaga, the chairman of the Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy; Ajit Kumar Hegde, commissioner of the Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA); Prasad Kumar Shetty, the resident director of Hotel Goldfinch; and Saravu Krishna Bhat and Vidya Kolyur, the directors of ATTY, were also present. 


About Balipa Narayan Bhagavata 


Balipa Narayana Bhagavata started performing when he was just 16 years of age and has been performing for the past 60 years. He has written 42 prasangas and is one of the most well-known practitioners of this form of art. Today, he trains children in the Bhagavatike art, which he believes to be very difficult to master.
