Mangalore, Oct 11, 2011: The BSNL Non Permanent Workers Union (DK), the BSNL daily wage employees, and contract workers under the banner of CITU launched an indefinite protest in front of the main gate of the BSNL office on Oct 11 Tuesday.
They demanded permanent jobs within the company for all BSNL daily wage and contract workers, re-appointment of fired workers, and the stopping of all discrimination against such workers.
CITU Secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said in his protest address that firing employees and not providing any facilities to them is illegal. Criticizing government policies, he said that the union government was encouraging privatization and washing its hands of its responsibilities toward society.
BSNL Non Permanent Workers’ Union President Vasanth Acharya said that the organization will fight till all the demands of the employees are satisfied. He urged the administrative department of BSNL to solve this problem at the earliest.
Regarding the non participation of permanent employees in the protest, he said that certain laws prevent them from protesting although they are sympathetic toward non permanent workers.
