BJP workers lay siege to Kavoor police station; demand release of ex-corporator

Mangalore, Mar 15, 2013: Hundreds of BJP workers and activists belonging to Hindu organizations laid siege to the Kavoor police station on March 15, Friday demanding the release of former BJP corporator Sharath Kumar who has been arrested in connection with Thursday night’s clashes with Congress workers who were holding a victory rally.

The protestors charged the Kavoor SI Umesh and another personnel of assaulting Sharath Kumar and one  Pramod. It is said both are presently undergoing treatment in hospital.

BJP leader Umanath Kotian who addressed the protestors, said this was the first such incident reported in Kunjathbail  area in the past five year period. He alleged that  the Congress victory rally went on till 1 am with loud music and DJ much against the rules which say all the music has to end by 10 pm.

The protesting activists threatened to intensify their agitation if the SI Umesh was not suspended within the next 48 hours.

BJP Minority Morcha President Franklin Monteiro, charged the Congress of supporting illegal activities and claimed that the BJP worked in the better interest of the nation.

Several BJP leaders as well as Hindu association leaders including Madhu Kiran, Pradeep Pumpwell, Jagadish Shenava, Suchethan and Sharan Pumpwell participated in the protest.

Miscreants set ablaze vegetable stall : In another development on the night of March 14, Thursday, some unidentified miscreants set ablaze a vegetable stall near Kavoor junction fish market, owned by one Abbas who hailed from Kunjathbail. It is being said that only the particular stall was attacked when there were many more stalls, merely because Abbas was from Kunjathbail.

Shops in the area have downed their shutters on Friday.
