Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, March 12, 2013 : “ Rampant corruption, arrogance and the failure of the BJP to respond to the problems of the people, led to its debacle in the CMC elections,” observed Udupi Block Congress President Pramod Madhwaraj.

Madhwaraj 1Speaking to reporters at the party office here after the party emerged the winner in the CMC election,  on March 11, Monday, he said the Congress was committed to provide a transparent and corruption-free administration.

Continuing, Madhwaraj said a Manifesto Implementation Committee would be constituted to see to it that all       promises made by the party are fulfilled. The committee will have party leaders and prominent citizens, he informed.

In the 2005 elections, the BJP had secured 28 seats while the Congress could manage just 6 seats. This time however, the Congress has  bagged 22 seats, BJP-12 and Independents -1. This is the first victory for Congress in Udupi after 45 years.

Madhwaraj urged the state government to announce reservation for the post of president and vice presidents of the urban local bodies, so that they could be elected  soon and  run the administration.
