BJP Minority Wing member arrested : 2 stolen cars, gold worth Rs 2.5 lakh seized

Mangalore, Feb 17, 2013: Bunder police have arrested one Abbas  alias Ibnu Abbas(32), a resident of Bengre in connection  with vehicle theft and looting cases. Police have also recovered two cars and a gold chain weighing five sovereigns from him.  Abbas happened to be the brother of a leader of the BJP minority wing in Mangalore.

He was arrested in connection with a complaint lodged in Pariaram Police station, Kannur, Kerala. Abbas and his associate Rashid had gone to Kerala to sell a stolen car. On his way the car knocked down a woman on the road side. Pretending to help the victim both approached the woman and snatched her five sovereigns gold chain. They escaped from the spot. However local people have chased them. Fearing police coming after them, the duo left the car on a remote place and escaped.

Kerala police with the help of fingerprints obtained from the car which is registered in Mangalore was able to catch Abbas with the assistance of Bunder police. However, Abbas’ associate, Rashid is still at large.

It is said Abbas was wanted in connection many vehicle theft cases and many cases of looting.
