Ayesha Banu-Zubair couple had not funded ultras, reveal NIA sources

Mangalore, Dec 12, 2013: The National Investigation Agency is learnt to have clarified that there was no link between the persons arrested in Mangalore on charges of illegal money transactions and the Patna serial blast case. Sources said the NIA was on the verge of closing the case owing to lack of evidences.

Here it is worth mentioning that Ayesha Banu and her husband Zubair were arrested from their Panjimogaru residence on November 11. Later on, the Bihar police also arrested Mustaq Ahmed of Sooralpady and Mohammad Asif  of Kuttar Madaka on similar charges. The arrests had created a flutter and newspapers were flooded with reports relating the arrests and details of the accused.

Interestingly, Bihar police had then said that they had made the arrests based on the hints of the NIA.

As per a newspaper report, a senior NIA official has said so “We have nothing to do with the case wherein the Bihar police have arrested a few in illegal fund transaction case.  So far no evidence is available to prove their terror links. Therefore we will not bother about this case.”

 The Union Home Ministry as well as the NIA have also expressed their displeasure over the Bihar police who have failed to prove the allegation that the arrested had funded terror activities.
