Mangalore, October 23: St. Aloysius College and St. Agnes College jointly organized a national-level seminar and workshop titled “Autonomy: Concept, Issues, and Challenges” in the Eric Mathaias Hall of St. Aloysius College on Oct 23, Saturday. Dr. K. N. Shetty, the member of ISTE, inaugurated the event and said in his inaugural address that the number of universities does not match the demand for higher education.
Further speaking on the matter of higher education, he said that India has 400 – 500 universities, which will be difficult to manage, owing to which universities should give autonomy to colleges and expect them to provide quality education. Autonomous colleges should take this as a challenge and provide better quality education than affiliated colleges. He also urged autonomous colleges to provide creative, transparent, and innovative education to students.
Padmashree Dr. M. Anandakrishna, the chairman of Science City in Chennai, delivered the key-note address.
Dr. M. Olivia AC, the joint secretary of the managing committee of St. Agnes College, was the guest of honour. Rev. Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, the rector of St. Aloysius College, presided over the programme.
