Auto rickshaw fares hiked to Rs. 17 for first 1.5 km.

Mangalore, Oct 4, 2011 : The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Dakshina Kannada has approved the hiking of auto rickshaw fares from Rs. 15 to Rs. 17 for the first 1.5 km.

 

In an official order, the secretary of the RTA has informed all auto rickshaw drivers and owners that it is mandatory for them to adjust their meters according to the revised rates and get it certified by the legal metrology department.

Auto rickshaws will charge Rs. 17 for the first 1.5km and Rs. 12 for every km thereafter. While there is no waiting charge for the first 15 minutes, 25 percent of the total fare will be charged for every 45 minutes of waiting thereafter.

While 20kgs luggage will not be charged, every 20kgs over the first 20kgs will be charged Rs. 2. The auto rickshaw fares from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. are 1.5 time the usual fare.

Auto rickshaw drivers are mandatorily required to display a copy of the revised fare as approved by the RTA inside their auto rickshaws. The meters should be adjusted according to the new fares and certified by the concerned department before Oct 31. Auto rickshaws that are permitted to move within the city can collect 1.5 the usual fare from the city borders to the destination, stated the RTA order.
