Assembly Elections: It’s Vijaykumar Shetty from M’lore North ; Sorake from Puttur

Mangalore, April 10, 2013: The Congress has finally decided to field former MLA and senior leader Vijaykumar Shetty from the Mangalore North constituency. The second list of the candidates of Congress has the names of former MP Vinaykumar Sorake from Puttur and MA Gafur from Kaup constituency, say sources.

 

It may be recalled here that the race for a ticket from Mangalore North constituency had recently turned ugly when there was a fracas between supporters of two aspirants Vijaykumar Shetty and Moidin Bava.  The two were also said to be against the candidature of Kripa Alva from Mangalore North. Finally, the party has now decided to give Vijaykumar Shetty another chance.

On the other hand, the party has chosen Vinaykumar Sorake from Puttur, a constituency where the new entrant Shakuntala Shetty was earlier projected as a candidate. Kaup constituency will see the candidature of MA Gafur, former Udupi district Congress president. Former minister Vasanth Salian was one of the strong contenders from this constituency.

There is also information that the Congress would field Shyamala Bhandari from Kundapur constituency.
