The chief guest of the occasion was Dr. Olinda Pereira, the director of Mangalore Vishwas Trust, who said that celebrating the silver jubilee of the presence of women in the college campus is indeed a significant event as it conveys the message that men and women have equal rights and that one ought not to dominate the other.

Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, the rector of St. Aloysius Institutions, presided over the programme and said that educating both the sexes under one roof brings the home atmosphere to the college. He also said that, according to research studies, the system of co-education improved self-confidence and mutual respect among the sexes and hardly has any disadvantage.

Gishelle Mehta, the author of Blossom Showers, was the guest of honor. Congratulating the college, she said that she attributes her success and her achievements to the education she has received.

Dr. Leo D’Souza, the former principal and rector of the Aloysius Institutions; Principal Fr. Swebert D’Silva; Dr. A. M. Narahari, the registrar (evaluations); Fr. Francis D’Almeida, the campus minister; Ronald Pinto, the vice principal; Dr. Lourdusamy, and the vice principal; V. Judy Pinto, the coordinator of the organizing committee, were also present.

The students who had designed the logo for the event were rewarded on the occasion. A special cultural programme formed the highlight of the event.

St. Aloysius College was launched in 1880, but admission of female students started only in 1986, nearly a century after the establishment of the college. Today, the college has an equal number of male and female students.
