Udupi, December 25, 2025: The complaint filed by student Akshata Poojary of Uppoor against the Brahmavar police, along with the counter-complaint registered by the police accusing her of obstructing official duty, have both been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for investigation, said Udupi District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar.
In a statement, the SP said that the proposal sent to the Director General of Police (DGP) seeking a CID probe has been approved, and the cases have been handed over to the CID for further investigation. He clarified that the CID will investigate both the complaint and the counter-complaint registered at the Brahmavar police station.
Earlier, the SP had stated that the investigation was transferred to the Manipal police station and that three police personnel accused in the case had been sent on leave. He said these steps were taken to ensure justice and transparency in the case.
Regarding the protest held in front of the Brahmavar police station on December 18, the SP said a case was registered against the protesters for using loudspeakers without permission, an offence punishable with a fine of ₹200. He added that although the police had issued prior notices to the organisers, the loudspeaker was used without permission, prompting the registration of the case.
Complaint to Home Minister
Udupi District Billava Yuva Vedike president Praveen M. Poojary alleged that the police were making various attempts to suppress the agitation, even though the protest was being carried out legally to ensure justice for Akshata Poojary, who he claimed was assaulted by the police without any reason.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Praveen M. Poojary, who led the protest in front of the Brahmavar police station, said that despite holding a peaceful protest, false cases were registered against them. He said they were now considering taking the agitation to the state level and were also planning to meet the State Home Minister in this regard.
He further alleged that although FIRs were registered against three police personnel following the protest, the investigation has not yet begun and no investigating officer has been appointed, raising doubts about the entire process. He also pointed out that no action has been taken so far against the police personnel accused in Akshata Poojary’s complaint, and demanded that the district police authorities ensure an immediate and impartial investigation.
Billava leaders Sudhakar D. Amin Pangala, Raju Poojary Uppoor and Mahesh Anchan Katapadi were present at the press conference.
