Advanced Dialysis, Mobile Critical Care units inaugurated at Unity Health Complex

Mangalore, Aug 4, 2013: State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader inaugurated the Advanced Dialysis and Mobile Critical Care units at Unity Health Complex  on August 3, Saturday in the presence of a number of dignitaries and the hospital management.

Inaugurating the advanced dialysis unit and mobile critical care unit (ambulance) of Unity Health Complex at Indian Medical Association House, he said: "Despite technical problem, we are planning to set up dialysis centre in taluks of every district. We have discussed this in the budget session and funds allotment will be finalized soon," he told.

 

Khader urged the young doctors to come forward to serve in rural areas. Urging the hospital authorities to suggest ideas of developing healthcare in the state, he said the Unity health complex has revolutionized mobile critical care unit in Dakshina Kannada district. In future, the state will observe dramatic change in health sector, he said, urging private institutions support in promoting healthcare.

Dr Habeeb Rahaman, chairman, Unity Care and Health Services, said, "Indian government is spending only 1 or 2 per cent money of its GDP on human healthcare. Unity health complex is pioneer in bringing modern health technologies in Mangalore, In 1988, the first dialysis in Mangalore had been equipped in the hospital and today, we have 13 dialysis machines in the hospital."

 

Private health institutions get least encouragement from the government. "We invest around 50-60 per cent of our income on modern technologies and within five to six years, the technology will be outdated, India requires better ideas in promoting healthcare service," he said.

If renal diseases are detected at primary stages, then the patient can be saved from expensive medicines and dialysis, said Dr Prakash K C, head Nephrology, Apollo First Medical Hospital and head Satellite Dialysis Centre, Chennai. Preventive medicines play an important, he added.

One can access the ambulance service by dialing toll free number 105707. The mobile critical care unit will serve people around the city limits in the initial stage. Five more ambulance services will be introduced in six months, said Ajmal Habeeb, MD, Unity Health Complex.
