Mangalore, May 27, 2013: MLA from Moodbidri Abhayachandra Jain who was recently inducted into the Siddaramaiah cabinet has informed reporters on May 27, Monday that he was quitting his post as fisheries minister owing to religious reasons.
He said he has been under pressure from his supporters since he took charge as minister, to quit the fisheries portfolio. “I have decided to bow to the wishes of my supporters. I do not want to hurt their sentiments,” Jain who was inducted as minister for Youth Affairs and Fisheries, said.
As Abhayachandra belongs to Jain community which follows a principle of non-violence, there had been a vehement demand from his loyalists not to function as fisheries minister.
