Mangalore, Nov 10, 2012: The Mangalore University All College Students’ Association (ACSA) organized a one-day hunger strike demanding thorough investigation of the Sowjanya rape and murder case and Deepika’s medical negligence death case.
Dinakar Shetty, legal advisor for ACSA, said that the police have not investigated these two cases in a satisfactory manner. He urged CBI investigation of Sowjanya’s case as the local people suspect that more people are involved in her rape and murder. The details revealed by the SP are not satisfactory, he said, adding that they will submit a memorandum to the state government through the DC demanding CBI investigation of this case.
Regarding Deepika’s case, he said that only Dr. Vijaykumar of JS Hospital has been arrested for medical negligence although many others were also responsible for her death. The police have not taken any action on the other doctors and medical staff although a memorandum was submitted to Ullal Police Station. He said that they will submit a memorandum to the Mangalore Police Commissioner through the DC demanding thorough investigation of this case.
Uttal Alva, president of the association; Prateek J. P., president of the PG Association; and student leaders Rahul Raj Prakash, Shipal Raj, Nagarjuna, Anola K. J, and others too part in this strike.
