A girl and a boy of different religions attacked in city

Mangalore, Sep 24: A group of people allegedly thrashed a Hindu boy  who was eating ice cream with muslim girl on Friday, September 24. The group hurled abuses at them for going out together in spite of belonging to different religions. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The victims were Kulsum and Vittal Nag, students of a local physiotherapy college. Their attackers were overpowered by a group of brave customers when they were about to leave the ice cream parlour after committing their crime. This helped the police nab Rasheed, Irshad, Muneer, Anwar, and Naseer, who had attacked the couple. Bunder Police Inspector Vinay Gaonkar arrested the six, who are now in police custody.

 “Their main target was the girl. Around 20 men beat her mercilessly. The boy too was beaten,” said Mohammed Nazir, a student who witnessed the atrack.

Kulsum and Vittal have registered a case at the Bunder police station.  Such cases of groups attacking young couples belonging to different religions are now on the rise in the city.

The City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that they are searching for more culprits in connection with attack. However, he said that there was no proof yet of the involvement of any organisation or its cadres in the attack.
