Mangalore, Dec 13, 2013: A total of 71,000 students have attempted to create a Guinness world record for the largest yoga class in ‘The Yoga for Future 2013’ in the twin districts on December 13, Friday.


The event was jointly organized by Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Department of Public Instructions and Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Yoga and Ethical Education Under the guidance of Chairman of Shanthivana Dharmasthala Dharamdhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade.

Health Minister U T Khader inaugurated the Yoga class at Sharada Vidhyalaya and congratulated total of 1828 students from 13 schools who participated in the yoga.


ADC K Dayananda said that the students from 50 centres in the twin districts performing yoga to create Guinness world record are the historic event.


The students made an attempt to beat the present Guinness Book of World Record at at Vivekananda Kendra in Jiwaji University, where 29,973 students from 362 schools performed Suryanamaskar for 18 minutes.


The yoga demonstrations comprised of Suryanamaskar for half- an- hour, chanting of Surya mantras, Thrikonasana, Parshwakonasana, Shashankasana, Pavana Mukthasana, Sarvangasana, Vajrasana, Makarasana, Bhujangasana and Dhanurasana.


Dr Leela Upadhyaya, Principal Sharada Vidhyalaya delivered the vote of thanks.  Prof M V Puranik, Administrator Guinness World Record Shrikant, Tashildhar Mohan Rao and Education Officer, DDPI Office Jayashekar Moses were also present.
