Mangalore, Sep 17, 2012 : The city police have arrested seven people for allegedly stealing from temples in the guise of devotees, said SP Abhishek Goyal at a press meet held in Mangalore on September 17, Monday.

 


The police officer patrolling the area near Kanyadi in Dharmasthala stopped a Tavera car because he got suspicious. When the seven adults and three children inside the car tried to escape, the police stopped them and began questioning them. Upon interrogation, it was revealed that the group stole from temples in the guise of devotees.

The accused are Shrinivas (32), Moulana Saab (35), Suresh Soma Reddy Kodagante (28), Lakkavva (45), Sharada (24), Tippavva (35), and Kamala Parvathi (65) from Gadag.

The gang would visit significant temples in the guise of devotees and steal cash and gold from other devotees. They had been doing the same thing in the temples of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. The police have confiscated Rs. 7 lakhs, jewellery, and 4 mobile sets.
