Udupi, Jun 24, 2026: A total of 65,401 children below the age of five will be administered polio drops across Udupi district as part of the National Pulse Polio Immunization Programme scheduled for Sunday, June 28, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Abid Gadyal.
He was speaking while presiding over the District Task Force Coordination Committee meeting for the National Pulse Polio Programme held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office conference hall at Rajathadri, Manipal, on Wednesday. He directed officials to ensure that no child in the district is left out of the immunization drive.
The Pulse Polio campaign will be conducted across the district from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on June 28. Parents have been urged to bring all children aged below five years for vaccination, irrespective of whether they have previously received polio doses.
According to officials, 65,401 children in the 0–5 age group have been identified for the campaign. A total of 665 vaccination booths, including 19 transit booths and three mobile teams, will be set up across the district. Around 2,660 vaccination personnel and 155 supervisors will be deployed for the programme.
Gadyal noted that the National Pulse Polio Programme has been implemented in India since 1995 and that no polio cases have been reported in the country for several years. However, since cases continue to be reported in some neighbouring countries, the immunization campaign remains necessary.
He stressed the need for coordinated efforts by all departments to ensure the programme’s success and called upon health department staff, ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers to actively participate and help achieve complete coverage.
Officials were instructed to make available school classrooms, Anganwadi centres and other suitable government and semi-government buildings for setting up polio booths. MESCO officials were also directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply from June 25 until the completion of the campaign.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Mahantesh Hangaragi, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Basavaraj Hubballi, District RCH Officer Dr Jyothsna B.K., District Surveillance Officer Dr Nagaratna, district-level implementing officers and taluk health officers.
