Mangalore, Aug 12, 2013: The six  Koraga families who had sacrificed their lands for the BC Road-Mangalore four lane works  began their indefinite protest   in front of Girijana Upayojana Kacheri at Kottara on Aug 12, Monday  demanding compensation at the earliest. The protest was organized under the aegis of the CPI(M).

Addressing the protesters, CPI(M) Leader Vasanth Achari said that the families which had let their land for the NH project in 2010 have not received compensation till date.

He also said that in 2011 the families submitted applications for sanctioning five cents of land to each family at Padau village but the district administration had not responded to the demand until now.  Later, the National ST Commission had directed the authorities to pay the rent of the house of the families till they are sanctioned permanent sites, unfortunately that too has gone unacknowledged, he said.

The protesters urged the authorities to sanction the assured five cents land and refund the house rent paid by them over the last few years.
