Mangaluru, June 8, 2023: The fourth edition of Nitte International Film Festival hosted by Nitte Institute of Communication, Nitte (Deemed to be University) opened on Thursday, 8th June, 2023 at Bharath Cinemas, Bharath Mall.
The festival from was inaugurated by Premendra Mazumder, Vice President of Federation of Film Societies of India and General secretary of International Federation of Film Critics - India and Prof. Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro- Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University).
Premendra Mazumder while addressing the gathering said, “There have been film festivals organized by various universities but is restricted within the auditorium. NIFF is one unique form of film festival where students come out of the campus to host the festival leading to better exposure. This is also creates an opportunity for the public to enjoy film and also interact with the film makers.”
He said, “The curation of the film festival is well thought and designed based on the audience’s interest.” Further appreciating the efforts of the team Mr. Mazumder assured required support and guidance for NIFF from Film Societies of India, International Federation of Film Critics and Federation of Film Societies of India.
He said he was delighted to see the young audience leaving their gadgets behind to enjoy the film in big screen in the dark hall.
Guest of Honour Prof.Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty while addressing the gathering said, “We mangaloreans are proud of Mangalore as it is an educational and banking hub. It is well known for its varied culture and tradition. The contribution has also made in the field of cinema by home grown artists like Aishwarya Rai, Sunil Shetty and Pooja Hegde.”
He further added, “The film makers should portray world as a small community and try to instill love and compassion among the people through their movies”. He also applauded the organisers for organizing such a remarkable event of bringing communities together through films.

The four- day film festival from 8th June to 11th June, 2023 aims at showcasing the best of world cinema and has created a platform for the film makers, critics and cinema enthusiasts to attend film showing and discuss the current artistic development in film, said a release from the institute.
NIFF began with the screening of Hadinelentu by Prithvi Konannur. A total of 100 films from different countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, France and Senegal among others in different languages like Tulu, Kannada, Malyalam, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Tamil, German and French is screened throughout the festival. The film is shown across three cinema hall – Screen 3, 4 and 5. As many as 40 film makers across the country will be present. NIFF will feature Germany as the ‘Country of Focus”.
A special section of the film festival will be the photo exhibition by Mr. Ashwathanarayana, an Archivist and Chronicler of Kannada Industry. The exhibition arranged at the lobby displays the snapshots portraying the journey of sandalwood.
