4 children die of drowning in Nethravathi tributary

Beltangady, Jan 9, 2012 : Four boys died of drowning in a tributary of River Nethravathi on Jan 8 Sunday. The deceased are Afir (11), the son of Jameela and Kabir of Sanjay Nagar; Javed Hassan (12) and Jamseed (7), sons of Rasheeda and Haroon Rashid; and Sayed Nasir (12), the son of Taseen and Syed.

The four kids had gone to play in the water because it was a weekend, but they slipped and fell into the water. While trying to rescue one another, they all drowned.

Afir was a Std VI student in St. Mary’s English Medium School, Javed was a Std VI student of St. Theresa Kannada Medium School, Jamseed was a Std I student of St. Mary’s School, and Nasir was a Std VI student of Government Model Kannada Medium School.

Shailesh Kumar, the member of the ZP; Fr. Joseph Valiyaparambil, the president of the Government Primary School Teachers Association; and SDPI office bearers visited the families.
