Mangalore, Aug 22, 2013: The 158th birth anniversary of Brahmashree Narayana Guru was celebrated by Akhila Bharatha Billawara Union in association with Narayan Guru educational institutions at Narayana Guru College auditorium, Kudroli on August 22, Thursday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, MLA J R Lobo said that Brahmashree Narayana Guru has been remembered and has been listed as a great saint for his great significant contributions to mankind. He had worked for the betterment of the society in this region, Lobo said.
He also said that one must follow his principles in daily life and respect others in society. Shree Narayan Guru had struggled for social equality. Apart from celebrating his birth anniversary, we must also inculcate his values and principles, he said.
Presiding over the event, Akhila Bharatha Billawara Union president Naveen Chandra D Suvarna said that Shree Narayana Guru brought about social reforms at a time when the so called backward classes were subject to exploitation.
College Principal Dr Vasanth Kumar welcomed the guests and gathering while Shakila Raj delivered the vote of thanks.
Mangalore University Professor and Student Welfare Officer Dr P L Dharma, Prajavani Mangalore Bureau Chief Balakrishna Puthige, Narayan Guru Educational institutions administrative officer K Balakrishna Gatti and others were present.
