poll survey: BJP-led NDA may sweep Uttarakhand, HP, Delhi, Punjab

New Delhi,May 12:  The CNN-IBN-CSDS-Lokniti post-poll survey predicts a big win for the BJP in northern states of Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The BJP may virtually sweep most of these states and the Congress is staring at a massive defeat.

Delhi

The BJP seems to have beaten the AAP in national capital Delhi. According to post-poll survey the BJP is expected to get 5-7 seats with 45 per cent vote share and the AAP may win 0-2 seats with 31 per cent vote share. The Congress which won all 7 Lok Sabha seats in 2009 is unlikely to win even a single seat this time.

According to the survey, the BJP may virtually sweep most of these states and the Congress is staring at a massive defeat.

Between the last election tracker conducted in the last week of March before voting started and now, the BJP has gained 5 per cent votes and the AAP has gained 2 per cent votes and the Congress has lost 5 per cent votes.

In 2009, the Congress won all 7 Lok Sabha seats with 57.1 per cent vote share. The BJP polled just 35.2 per cent votes. Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP did not exist then.

According to the poll findings, the Congress which is currently holding all 7 Lok Sabha seats and was in power in Delhi till last December, is now a distant third player.

The sample size for Delhi is 895 respondents.

Punjab

The victory march of the ruling SAD and BJP continues in Punjab. The post-poll survey findings show that the SAD-BJP is leading with 40 per cent vote share and likely to win 6-9 seats. The Congress-PPP combine may win 3-5 seats with 29 per cent vote share. The joker in the pack AAP, is doing extremely well with 21 per cent vote share in a two party state till now and may win 1-3 seats.

In 2009, the Congress polled 45.2 per cent votes and the SAD-BJP got 43.9 per cent votes.

The sample size for Punjab is 1026 respondents and the post-poll was conducted in 11 Lok Sabha seats.

Haryana

The BJP-HJC alliance in Haryana is expected to beat the ruling Congress. According to post-poll findings the BJP-HJC alliance may get 38 per cent votes. The ruling Congress will be second with 24 per cent vote share and the main opposition INLD third with 20 per cent vote share. The AAP may end up getting just 4 per cent votes.

Between the last election tracker conducted in the last week of March and now, the BJP-HJC alliance seems to have gained 2 per cent votes and the Congress has lost 6 per cent votes.

In 2009, the Congress swept the polls. Haryana has 10 Lok Sabha seats. The sample size for Haryana is 673 respondents and the survey was conducted in all 10 Lok Sabha seats.

Himachal Pradesh

The ruling Congress may face a rout in Himachal Pradesh. According to the post-poll survey, the opposition BJP is expected to get 51 per cent votes. The ruling Congress may get 37 per cent votes.

The sample size for Himachal Pradesh is 309 and the survey was conducted in all 4 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Uttarakhand

What may happen in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh may be repeated in Uttarakhand. According to the survey, the opposition BJP may get 49 per cent vote share.

The ruling Congress, which won all 5 Lok Sabha seats in 2009, may get just 38 per cent votes this time.

The sample size for Uttarakhand is 317 and the survey was conducted in all 5 Lok Sabha seats.
