Will resign if state doesn’t take action, says Karnataka BJP MLA on party worker’s murder

Bengaluru, July 27, 2022: Hours after a BJP youth worker was hacked to death by motorcycle-borne attackers in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday night, state BJP MLA MP Renukacharya said he will resign if the state does not take action against the attackers.

"If our government does not take strict action against the miscreants responsible for the killings of Hindu activists, I am ready to resign as MLA," he said.

The slain BJP Yuva Morcha worker, Praveen Nettaru, who owned a poultry shop, was killed around 9:30 pm in Bellare village under the Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada.

Citing the Uttar Pradesh government’s ‘bulldozer justice’, the MLA said, “Only if our government takes strict action against the miscreants on the model of Yogi Adityanath’s government, our government and organisation can remain charismatic.”

There are repeated killings of Hindu activists have increased in the state, he said.

“What is the use of being in power if we cannot protect our Hindu workers?” the BJP MLA asked.

“Every time a Hindu activist is killed, social media posts with emotional tributes, calls for strict action, execution of perpetrators, and condolences pour in. But they are of no use,” he said.

“If the state government wants to restore the faith of Hindu activists, it must punish the miscreants,” he said.

The adviser to CM Basavaraj Bommai said for him, the protection of Hindu activists was a priority.

“So if our government does not take strict action against the miscreants, I am thinking of resigning as MLA after discussing with my constituency leaders and activists,” he said.

The BJP leader said he was embarrassed as the police had not traced the people who threatened to kill him a few days ago.

“What people want is not our speeches or statements, but the decisive actions we take,” he said.

“I repeat that I will continue in this government only if strict action is taken against the miscreants,” he reiterated.
