Aryan Khan, the son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was arrested in connection with the Mumbai cruise drugs case early in October. After several court hearings, lots of drama and 26 long days in custody later, the Bombay High Court granted him bail on October 28. He finally walked out of jail on October 30.

There were 10 volumes of the chargesheet which was submitted in spiral bound to the registry.

On March 31, Special Judge VV Patil had granted 60 days to the agency to file the prosecution complaint or chargesheet. The agency had sought an extension of 90 days. Judge Patil heard arguments from both sides for nearly two hours before reserving his order on Wednesday.

The agency has been investigating the case for the past 180 days and the stipulated time for filing of chargesheet gets over on Thursday, March 31. With the extension of time granted, the agency will try to fill in all the loopholes that are there to make a watertight case against the accused.

Besides Aryan, there were nineteen other accused in the case. All the accused, except two, are currently out on bail. The chargesheet was submitted before the registry and the special NDPS court will take its cognizance after the verification of the documents. The accused persons were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for alleged possession, consumption, sale/purchase of banned drugs, conspiracy and abetment, among others.
