Paresh Mesta’s death accidental: CBI ’B’ report on 2017 case

Honnavar, Oct 04, 2022: The Central Bureau of Investigation, or the CBI, has filed a ’B’ report on the 2017 death of Paresh Mesta. In the CBI’s report, Paresh Mesta’s death was reported to be an accidental one.

Five accused - Zamaal Azad, Ashif Rafiq, Faizal, Salim and Imtiyaz - were arrested in the case.

In 2017, Mesta - 19 years old then - was found dead in December in Uttar Kannada district’s Honnavar following clashes in the area. His body was recovered on December 8 from Shettikere Lake in Honnavar.

On December 13, the state government handed over the probe to the central probe agency.

On April 10, 2018, the central government issued a notification under the Delhi Police Establishment Act to register an FIR. The FIR filed by the CBI on April 23 is a reproduction of the one registered at the Honnavar station on December 8, 2017.
