New Delhi, May 14, 2014, DHNS: The NDTV-Hansa Research exit poll gave the BJP 235 seats of its own, while the Congress could win 79 seats, its all-time low.

The Narendra Modi-led NDA is on course to form the next government by winning 279 seats, while the Congress-led UPA could finish with 103 seats, an exit poll conducted by NDTV said on Wednesday night.

NDTV-Exit poll...

The regional parties, including the SP, BSP, AIADMK, DMK and the Trinamool were projected to win 161 seats. The AIADMK and the TMC could stand third and fourth in the tally with 32 and 30 seats respectively, it said.

The NDTV-Hansa Research exit poll gave the BJP 235 seats of its own, while the Congress could win 79 seats, its all-time low. The polls indicated a “Modi wave” dominating Uttar Pradesh.

The BJP was shown winning 56 seats in the northern state with the Congress reduced to a tally of four — 18 less than what it had won in 2009. The SP, which rules Uttar Pradesh, and the BSP are projected to get 12 and eight seats respectively.

In Karnataka, the poll put the BJP tally at 16 and the Congress at 10. Two seats were given to the JDS.

The exit poll, conducted using two separate survey methodologies, had a sample size of 1.55 lakh with a two per cent margin of error.

CNN-IBN also updated its final figures on Wednesday, revising the NDA tally to 274-286 from 270-282 seats. The BJP alone is expected to win 230-242 seats, it said. The change was because it had not included the figures from north-eastern states in its poll telecast on May 12, it added. Its final projection for the UPA remains at 92-102 seats.
