Bangalore, March 23: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday quashed the plea of Swami Nityananda who sought the court’s directions for a stay on the cases filed against him following tapes of his alleged sex romp with Tamil actress Ranjitha.

This has blocked his visit to the city as Swami had planned to come back to Bangalore after putting the ongoing investigations on hold.

Dismissing the petition, the court also ordered the Bidadi police to update the court and the government about the progress of the investigations by March 26.

Nitayanada, through his counsel had filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court seeking quashing of all charges filed against him.

In his petition, Nitayanada said that the charges were filed against him with the ulterior motive that too by a third party. He said that the whole episode has been exaggerated and the video footage of a sex romp is a fabricated one.

The Bidadi police have taken up a case against Swami based on the complaint being transferred to them by their Tamil Nadu counterparts. The case has been booked under section 295(a), outraging the religious sentiments, unnatural sexual offense ( 377) and rape (376), 120(b) criminal conspiracy and cheating (420).
