UAE, May 15, 2026: Emphasising the need for stability in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is ready to extend all possible support to restore peace in the region.
Modi arrived in the UAE on the first leg of his five-nation tour and held bilateral talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In his opening remarks during the meeting, Modi condemned the recent attacks on the UAE amid the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
“The way the UAE has been targeted is not acceptable,” Modi said, while praising the Gulf nation for handling the situation with restraint.
The UAE, which hosts a major US military base, has faced Iranian strikes during the ongoing conflict in the region.
Highlighting the wider global impact of the West Asian crisis, Modi said India was prepared to provide all possible assistance to promote peace and stability.
During the visit, India and the UAE finalised agreements on a strategic defence partnership, along with pacts related to Strategic Petroleum Reserves and LPG cooperation.
Modi was personally received at the Abu Dhabi airport by Al Nahyan and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour. In a special gesture, his aircraft was escorted by UAE military jets.
In a social media post, Modi thanked the UAE President for the “gracious gesture” and said he looked forward to discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in sectors such as energy, investment and supply chains.
The visit also comes amid growing attention on the UAE’s recent decision to exit Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, a move seen by analysts as part of Abu Dhabi’s push for a more independent energy policy.
After concluding the UAE leg of the tour, Modi is scheduled to visit the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy for talks focused on trade, technology, investment and green transition initiatives.
