Same-sex women doctors get engaged in Nagpur, their heartwarming love story is viral

Nagpur, Jan 11, 2022: Two women doctors - Surbhi Mitra and Paromita Mukherjee got engaged in a private ceremony in Maharashtra’s Nagpur last week as their pictures went viral on social media. The same-sex couple called their engagement a "commitment ring ceremony". It was a gala affair which they celebrated by dancing and feasting.

 

Do you wish to read about their love story? Well, Surbhi and Paromita met at a conference in Kolkata. Surbhi was one of the speakers at the event that Paromita attended.

Paromita expressed her willingness to speak to Surbhi at the conference. However, Surbhi had to return to Nagpur which meant keeping in touch would have been difficult. That is when she shared her Instagram id with Paromita and the rest, as they say, is history.

For Paromita, it wasn’t love at first sight. "It was just an infatuation".

"I decided that we would go on a trip to the beach with our friends. I told her the plan and asked if I would propose to her there in front of everyone, would she reject me? She said, ‘No, why would I do that?’ So, I got my answer. So, the proposal that was supposed to happen on a beach in Goa or Mumbai turned into a grand commitment ceremony,” Paromita added.

The couple will tie the knot soon in Goa. Like the ring ceremony, the couple has named their wedding ceremony “Civil Union."
