ZP meeting - social welfare department flayed for providing wrong statistics

Mangalore, Jan 2, 2011 : The social welfare department was accused of supplying wrong information at the 5th general body meeting of the DK Zilla Panchayat on Jan 2 Monday.

 

 

 

At the previous meeting, the department was instructed to provide statistics of Koraga families in DK. The officials of the department claim that, as per a survey conducted, 313 of the 1090 Koraga families live on their own land.

The presidents of ZP standing committees and ZP members collectively accused the department of providing wrong information, alleging that the department has not conducted any survey and that their statistics were not accurate. They also demanded that the information should be provided on the officials who conducted the survey last month, alleging that no official has conducted any survey in spite of the transport facilities provided for them.

ZP members also made spoke on the condition of the Koraga community in DK, adding that funds allotted under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Girha Nirman Yojana and released by the state government will be utilized to build houses for them.

ZP members also complained about the pathetic conditions of the social welfare department office. Complaining about the office, Sarawati Kamath, a ZP member, remarked that she had to turn on her mobile phone torch to see the other officials in the Sullia taluk office.

The delay in solving crimes on the part of the police and other grievances were also discussed at the meeting.
