Mangalore, Jan 28: The DK District Youth Congress Committee will organize “Brihat Youth Awareness Convention” on Thokkottu Grounds at Ullal on Feb 2, Wednesday, at 4:00 p.m. in a bid to strengthen the party.
Speaking at a press meet held at the district office of the Congress party on Jan 28, Friday, DK District Youth Congress Committee President Arun Coelho said that this campaign, which was initiated by Rahul Gandhi, has already been successful in 16 states, owing to which the DK District Youth Congress Committee has decided to launch it in Mangalore to attract youth to the party.
The campaign targets the youth, who comprise around 70 percent of the total population in the country, he said and added that the purpose of the campaign is to make the youth aware of the need to get involved in current politics and create a better country.
MLA Rajeev Sathwa, the president of the All India Youth Congress; Jeethendra Singh, the secretary of the All India National Congress; KPCC President Dr. Parameshwara; Siddharamaiah, the opposition party leader; B. Janardhana Poojary, the former central minister; D. K. Shivakumar, the former president of the KPCC; MLA Abhayachandra Jain; Krishna Byre Gowda, the president of the State Youth Congress Committee; Dinesh Gundu Rao, the former president of the Youth Congress; Ramanath Rai, the district Congress president; former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake; and other Congress leaders are expected to participate in the campaign, said Mr. Coelho.
Congress workers will publicize the event on Jan 30, as part of which two vehicles will leave the Congress office at 10:00 a.m., he said.
Congress leaders Ivan D’Souza, MLA U. T. Khader, Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Vijay Kumar Shetty, and T. K. Sudhir were also present.
