Yeddy warns of state - wide agitation if governor does not quit

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 22: Addressing a huge gathering of thousands of BJP workers on Nehru Maidan this afternoon, CM B. S. Yeddyurappa said that an intense state-wide agitation will be staged if the union government fails to recall Governor H. R. Bharadwaj within 24 hours. This event was part of the BJP’s 5-day state-wide protest campaign against the governor’s move to dissolve the government.

The BJP has been demanding the recall of the governor, the rejection of the governor’s recommendation of presidential rule in the state, and permission to conduct the legislative session from June 2.

The CM began his address questioning Congress leaders M. Veerappa Moily and B. Janardhan Poojary and demanding to know why the twin districts never witnessed any development during the Congress rule. He also ridiculed Poojary, who had stated that he would retire from politics if the BJP won the by-polls in Jagalur, Bangarapete, and Chennapattana. Stating that the BJP has exhibited its strength by winning the by-polls in these 3 constituencies, in which 2 Congress candidates and 2 JD(S) candidates lost their deposits, the CM said that he does not even demand Poojary’s retirement because the Congress is now just a sinking ship.

Flaying the governor, he said that the governor is inefficient and urged him to quit his post and go back to where he came from. He said that the governor would only insult the people of Karnataka if he continues as the governor of Karnataka. Speaking further, he said that a governor who takes an anti-government stand should no longer continue in the post of governor and warned that the BJP will intensify its protests against the governor till he either resigns or the union government recalls him. He also urged PM Manmohan Singh not to accept the governor’s recommendation.

Bringing the public’s attention to the union government’s mega scams such as the Commonwealth Games scam and the 2G Spectrum scam, the CM claimed that the Congress, a party steeped in corruption is now just a regional party. He declared that the Congress is no longer a national party and will be defeated by the BJP in future elections.

Criticizing H. D. Deve Gowda, the former prime minister, he said that Mr. Gowda, whose party is barely struggling to exist, is dreaming of dissolving the BJP-led state government when even the union government is hesitating to accept the governor’s recommendations.

Stating that the BJP is proud to have completed 3 successful years in power, he said that it was quite challenging to withstand the conspiracies of the Opposition, which had employed undemocratic methods to bring down the government.

MPs Nalin Kumar Kateel and D. V. Sadananda Gowda, Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, and District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar were also present.
