Mangalore, Feb 5, 2012: The World Guides Movement celebrated their 100th anniversary in the Scouts and Guides Bhavan on Feb 4 Saturday. More than 400 scouts and guides from 29 schools across the district were present.
Addressing the gathering, MLA U. T. Khader said that remaining in touch with one’s humanity is much more important that achieving one’s goals. Stating that being a scout had helped him frame proper goals, he said that this movement trains students to develop the qualities of fearlessness and honesty.
Speaking about the condition of women in India, he said that the Guide Movement is very essential to improve the status of women in society. He said that women and girls must be encouraged to come into the mainstream of society.
Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of Zilla Panchayat; Moses Jayashekar, the deputy director of public instruction; Irene D’Cunha and Ramshesh Shetty, the district officers of the Scouts and Guides Movement; and Jagadish Shenoy, the vice president of the DK district association, were also present.
