Vitla, Mar 7, 2026: Panic gripped residents after a powerful explosion occurred at a firecracker manufacturing unit at Nooji near Kambalabettu, close to Vitla.

According to reports, firecrackers stored at the unit suddenly exploded, sending thick smoke billowing high into the air and alarming people in the surrounding areas.

Fire cracker bust

Sources said that Gaffoor, a resident of Kambalabettu, had prepared and stored firecrackers for a temple festival. The explosion reportedly occurred in the afternoon, likely triggered by the intense heat. Fortunately, no workers or residents were present at the site at the time, and no casualties were reported.

The area has witnessed similar incidents in the past. Last year, a major explosion had occurred at Kore in Madattadka area of Moodnuru village near Vitla, causing damage to nearby houses, trees, and plants. Earlier, around 2017, two workers were killed when firecrackers exploded near Gaffoor’s house at Nooji. A case had been registered in that connection, but it is yet to be resolved.

Revenue Inspector Ravi, Vitla Police Inspector Prakash Devadiga, Vitla PSI Ramakrishna, and other officials visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Preliminary investigation revealed that no official permission had been obtained to manufacture firecrackers at the location.
