Puttur, Apr 20, 2012 : A gang of thieves stole Rs. 11 lakh from a house in Polya near Kabaka early in the morning of April 19 Thursday. They entered Ummer Farooq’s house by breaking down the back door. Just 3 days back, a house in Mura was broken into and cash and valuables worth Rs. 2.8 lakh were stolen.
Ummer Farooq was robbed of gold ornaments worth Rs. 9 lakh, Rs. 1 lakh in cash, and other assets, making a total of valuables worth Rs. 11 lakh.
Although the members of the family were inside the house, they remained unaware that thieves had broken into. The thieves could gain easy access to the valuables as the key of the steel almirah was hanging from the keyhole.
According to the complaint lodged at the local police station, the valuables belong to Farooq’s elder brother’s sister-in-law, who lives in Dubai.
The local police, under the leadership of SP S. A. Prabhakar, have begun investigating the crime. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service.
