Puttur, Mar 10, 2026: Six persons, including five children from the same family, were injured after a speeding car rammed into an auto-rickshaw on Monday evening, March 9, in Uppinangady.
The injured have been identified as auto-rickshaw driver Kalandar Shafi and his children — Mohammed Jazeer (13), Mohammed Irshad (11), Mohammed Raziq (9), Mohammed Noor (5), and Sazma (4). Kalandar Shafi, Sazma and Mohammed Jazeer sustained serious injuries and were shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment.
According to reports, Kalandar Shafi had picked up his children from the Government Model Higher Primary School in Uppinangady and was heading towards their residence in 34 Nekkilady.
While the auto-rickshaw was proceeding on the road, a car travelling from Mangaluru towards Uppinangady reportedly entered the service road from the Mangaluru–Bengaluru National Highway at high speed and crashed into the auto-rickshaw.
The impact of the collision caused the auto-rickshaw to overturn, leaving all six occupants injured. Eyewitnesses alleged that the accident occurred due to the rash and negligent driving of the car driver.
Police have registered a case at the Uppinangady police station and further investigation is in progress.
