Undivided DK district to set Guinness World Records through ‘Yoga for Future 2013’: Rai

Mangalore, Dec 9, 2013: District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai said that Kishan Shrikanth, who set Guinness Book of World Records as the Youngest film director will be the Brand Ambassador for ‘Yoga for Future 2013’ to be held at various centres in Undivided Dakshina Kannada district on December 11, Wednesday.


Yoga for Future 2013 is being organized under the aegis of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Shantivana Trust, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Department of Public Instructions, Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Yoga and Ethical Education.

Speaking at the press meet held at Circuit House on Dec 9, Monday, Rai, who is also the president of the organizing committee said that more than 70,000 students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will make an attempt to create a Guinness World Record for the largest Yoga demonstration under the guidance of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade. Students have been selected from primary school to pre-university, he added.


Through such demonstration, the students will make a will attempt to replace the Guinness Book of World Record created by 29,973 students from 362 schools performed Suryanamaskar for 18 minutes at Vivekanand Kendra in Jiwaji University, Gwalior, he said.


The event will witness one lakh students performing Suryanamaskar and various asanas in 10 centres in Dakshina Kannada and 30 centres in Udupi simultaneously between 10 am and 10.31am.


A total of 27,600 students from 150 institutions from DK district will participate in the demonstration.

Around 2,000 students will perform Yoga at Sharada Vidyalaya in the city. While many will participate in other centres in districts including Sharada Vidyalaya, Swaraj Maidan, Moodbidri, Ratnavarma Stadium, Ujire, Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, Kalladka, Sri Sathya Sai Lokaseva Vidya Kendra, Alike, Kombettu High School Maidan, Puttur, Vivekananda School Grounds, St Philomena’s Grounds, Puttur, Ramakunja School Grounds and KVJ School Grounds, Sullia.


The students will participate in the largest yoga demonstration to be commenced at 10 am, while they will assemble in their respected venues at 9 am.


Kishan said that the yoga will be duly videographed and two experts in each centre will be present to ensure simultaneous demonstration of yoga and asanas.


The demonstration will comprise of Sooryanamaskar, chanting of Soorya mantras, thrikonasana, parshwakonasana, shashankasana, pavana mukthasana, sarvangasana, vajrasana, makarasana, bhujangasana and dhanurasana, he said.


He also said that he is happy to be a part of this mass initiative, which would help enhance the popularity of yoga through Guinness Record.


Health Minister U T Khader, ADC K Dayanand and others were present.
