Udupi, Dec 30, 2011: A soldier in the Indian Army, hailing from Uddinahitlu in Tenkanidiyoor in Udupi, was killed in an encounter with railway dacoits near Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Dec 28 Wednesday.
The deceased Upendra (23) is survived by 3 brothers. His family was informed about his death on Thursday.
Upendra, whose family is very poor, lost his parents very early. From a tender age, he used to wake up at 2:00 a.m. and go to Malpe Fishing Port to unload fish. He was an expert in climbing coconut trees. He completed his PUC at Poornaprajna Evening College and got a job in a private organization.
Four years ago he was recruited into the Indian Army and was posted to Jammu and Kashmir as well as Madhya Pradesh.
Upendra had come home for Diwali this year.
