Udupi, Feb 25, 2013 : In a tragic incident reported from near Thenka Board School here on February 24, Sunday, a 13 year old girl was killed while her younger sister was critically injured when a speeding Alto Car knocked them down.
The incident occurred at around 1.30 pm, when the two sisters along with their family members were waiting for a bus to attend a function at Uchila.
The deceased has been identified as Sadima Sadif (13). Her sister Sayima Parveen (12) has been critically injured and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangalore. The car was in such great speed that it stopped 200 meters away after knocking down the two girls.
An angry mob even thrashed the car driver for claiming an innocent life. It is said the car was on way to Kumble from Mumbai. The deceased Sadima was a IX standard student at Saraswathi Mandir school while her sister was a class 7 school in a local school.
Here it is noteworthy that several trucks are parked unauthorisedly on either side of the road from Tenka school to a local mosque and this is suspected to be one of the reasons for the accident. Moreover the two lane road also does not have proper sign boards.
Padubidri police have registered a case.
