Udupi, June 22, 2025: Karkala police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of cattle from a local animal care facility. The accused, identified as Salim (38) from Moodbidri, is alleged to have stolen three cows from the Ahimsa Animal Care Trust in Bajagoli, Karkala taluk, during the early hours of June 16. The stolen cattle, valued at around ₹10,000, were reportedly loaded into a vehicle and taken away.
Following a complaint, police registered a case at Karkala Rural Police Station and seized the vehicle used in the theft. According to Udupi SP Hariram Shankar, two additional suspects have been identified and are yet to be apprehended.
In a separate incident on Saturday, Abdul Rahim (35) was detained for transporting 25 kg of meat worth approximately ₹7,500 without proper documentation. The incident occurred near the Guheshwara Temple crossroad in Hosadu village on the Mullikatte-Gangolli road. The accused, who was riding a scooter, had the vehicle and meat seized by police.
Investigations revealed that Rahim may have also been involved in a failed cattle theft attempt near the KEB office on June 18. A case regarding this attempt has been registered at the Gangolli Police Station under relevant sections. Both cases are under further investigation.
