Udupi, Mar 22, 2013 : In a case of gruesome murder reported from Mandedi Undaru in Innanje near here, a man was killed by his very own elder brother, in the latter’s bid to save their mother from getting assaulted by the former.
The incident took place on the night of March 19, Tuesday, when Shanker Kotian (47) as usual had come home drunk and began to harass and chase his mother with whom he had a sort of enmity over a property dispute.
His elder brother Srinivas Poojari, in an apparent bid to save his mother Paddu Poojarthi, took a stick found nearby and began to hit his brother. This resulted in a serious clash between the two brothers and in a fit of anger, Srinivas hit Shanker’s head with a knife. The latter soon collapsed and died of excessive bleeding.
It is learnt Paddu Poojarthi owned four acres of land and Shanker used to often pester her to give his share.
Kaup police are conducting the investigations.
