Udupi, July 14, 2025: A man accused in a POCSO case attacked a police constable during a crime scene investigation, prompting an intervention by senior officers to subdue him. Both the constable and the arrested were later admitted to the district hospital for treatment.
Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said that a case was registered at the Women’s Police Station on July 8, 2 under sections 74 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and sections 7, 8, 9(M)(N), and 10 of the POCSO Act.
In connection with the case, the accused, Mohammad Danish (29) from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, and currently residing at Manipal, Udupi district, was taken into custody on July 12.
While he was being taken for a spot inspection at the alleged crime scene in Manipal, Tangodu 2nd Cross, 80 Badagubettu village, Mohammad Danish suddenly turned violent. He allegedly pushed Police Constable Ritesh, who was holding him by the hand, to the ground by pushing him in the chest with both hands. Danish then attempted to strike the constable with a laterite stone found nearby, he said.
The SP said Inspector Ramachandra Nayak intervened and stopped the attack, but Danish allegedly tried to assault him as well. Police then used a baton to strike Danish in the leg and successfully restrained him with the help of other personnel.
Constable Ritesh and Mohammad Danish were injured in the incident and have been admitted at Udupi District Government Hospital for treatment.
